WILMINGTON - A third peak at Whiteface Mountain opened last week to rave reviews.

Lookout Mountain officially opened Jan. 9 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony atop the peak's triple chairlift. A number of local officials led the ceremony, including ORDA chairman Joe Martens, Wilmington Supervisor Randy Preston, ORDA CEO and president Ted Blazer and Whiteface general manager Jay Rand.

The peak has three new trails and features the "Wilmington Trail," a 2.5-mile long intermediate cruiser that overlooks the Wild Forest of Wilmington. "Lookout Below" and "Hoyt's High" make up the rest of Lookout Mountain, and are both expert runs.

"Below" is a 1/5-mile long drop, while "Hoyt's High" measures slightly under one-mile and is named after 50-year veteran ski patroller Jim Hoyt, Sr. These runs will open later on this winter.
