Adults and youth collaborating on

LAKE GEORGE - Local residents of all ages have been gathering to discuss opportunities available to youth in the Lake George community and the needs that youth and adults see as important to develop - whether it's a youth center, skateboard park, or merely a year-round gathering place.

Youth, adults, parents, and community leaders are invited to come together for a second "Community Conversation"to be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thurs. Jan. 22, in the cafeteria at Lake George Junior-Senior High School. Refreshments will be served and child care will be provided.

This second meeting in an ongoing series is sponsored by the Bi-County Collaboration for Community Change in conjunction with Lake George Schools and Lake George Communities That Care.

More than 90 people attended an initial meeting in November, and several other smaller meetings have been held since then. In addition, a group of 12 to 15 youth at Lake George High School are meeting weekly and working on a series of proposals designed to develop more youth opportunities in Lake George.

At the Jan. 22 meeting, participants will first work in groups of 10 to 15 , then will meet as an overall group before making plans for the next steps. Event organizer Bill Toscano said it is important that both youth and adults attend the session so the group can get input from all sources.

Planned topics include discussion of a youth center, a YMCA-type facility, a skateboard park, an Environmental Club and weekly or bi-weekly activities for youth.

The will group is also likely to discuss possible ideas involving Gaslight Village, the Lake George Forum and other facilities. Town, village and school officials will be in attendance and taking part in the discussions.
