A Sunday snow day

Nature gave us a day off from church this past Sunday, as the snow was really coming down at the hour of worship. It is beautiful to look out at the snow covered world around us, but took a little digging out to get going in the early hours.

Hardly the season to start thinking about summer events, but it is necessary for us as a community to make our plans for some events to celebrate the Quadricentennial - 400 year since Samuel Champlain traveled the waters of Lake Champlain. Events will be celebrated all over New York State and the commission is encouraging every community to celebrate in their own style, especially the communities along the Lake. We want to have as many events as people will sponsor and dream up. A few are being planned and a schedule will soon be published with the hopes that others will join in. Let your ideas be known to the Town Hall, or Janice Allen so they can be placed on the community calendar.

The Catholic Church started this special year on Christmas Eve, with Midnight Mass followed by a special reception into the wee hours of the next day. This is their 100 th anniversary and they have events planned for each month of the 2009 year.

It was wonderful to meet up with little Justin Joslyn and his dad, he has finished his treatments and is doing great and back in school. Reports that Joyce Blanchard is making improvements in her health, she has resided at the hospital now for 6 months and we are sure she would love to get home. Reports are that Ryan Bruno is making some headway in his recovery after his automobile accident on New Years Eve, we wish them all the best in the days ahead. Sad to learn of two Willsboro Central School Alumni have passed away recently, Jo Ann McGee and Ellis Patnode.

I received a neat e-mail from Ben Stein a former reporter at WPTZ, living here in the area and was on a Wed. night bowling league. He had nothing but praise for how welcoming people in this area have shown him and he enjoyed all his times with his fellow bowlers. He is leaving the area to take a new job, but will take his good memories with him into the future.

Birthday Greetings to Peggy Hunn 1/18, Ruth Young 1/18, Grace Uhlig 1/19, Cecile McVicker 1/19, Rita Devan 1/19, Doug Young 1/19, Bonnie Hathaway 1/21.
