In boys high school basketball last Saturday, in Bristol, the Otter Valley Otters avenged an earlier season loss by defeating the hometown Mount Abraham Eagles 40-30.
The Otters employed a tenacious defense that held the Eagles to just 12 first half points. Junior Joey Massores of Otter Valley, led all scorers with 18 points, while Corey Kimball paced the Eagles with 12. Mount Abraham fell to 3-7 with the loss, while the win elevated Otter Valley to 3-8 on the year.
Last Friday night in West Rutland the Rochester Rockets turned a 42-28 rebound advantage into a 51-38 win over the hometown Golden Horde. Taylor Fuller Led the Rockets with 19 points, and Harlen Hopkins poured in a dozen more off the bench. Alex Kelly added 11 more for Rochester who improved to 4-5 with the win. In his first ever varsity start Greg Duprey led the 0-8 Golden Horde with 10 points. Adon Garcia and Joey Thornton added six points each for Westside.
Like the Horde, the Mount Saint Joseph Mounties suffered defeat despite playing well last Friday in Windsor, losing to the Yellow Jackets 56-50. The Mounties might have pulled out a huge road victory had it not been for the third quarter, when the Yellow Jackets out scored their guests 26-8. Cody Tancredo (17 points) and Hunter (15 points) combined to yield 32 points and lead the 5-5 Yellow Jackets to the win. Leighton Thayer scored 18 points and Chris Reedy added 13 more for the Mounties in defeat.
In high school girls action last Saturday the West Rutland Golden Horde put together a 14-3 second quarter run to propel them to a 64-41 home win over the Rocjester Rockets. Katie Lincoln score 19 to lead West Rutland. Paityn Boyer paced the visiting Rockets with a dozen.
