NORTH CREEK - On Saturday evening, Jan. 17, Our Town Theatre Group's Foreign Film Series will continue with the Liev Schreiber film "Everything is Illuminated."
The film will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Tannery Pond Community Center. Rated PG-13, the movie is classified as an "adventure/comedy/drama." It offers a look at ways in which the Holocaust continues to resonate among contemporary youth, as well as those old enough to have experienced World War II.
Set in present-day Ukraine, the film's main character is a young American of Jewish ancestry who travels to Ukraine with his grandfather. The pair return to the village of the grandfather's childhood seeking the woman who saved him from the Nazis.
The plot involves a series of unexpected revelations set to a soundtrack featuring eight original songs. "Everything is Illuminated" won three awards in 2005, two from the Venice Film Festival and one from the Sao Paulo International Film Festival.
The film is free, with a $5 donation suggested. For further information, call Ann Hornbeck at 251-0856.
