New Year's Eve runners go from RHS to downtown

RUTLAND - The new year was welcomed to the area with a running race in downtown Rutland last week. The Fund Run 6k started and ended at Rutland High School on Stratton Road Dec. 31.

Signs were posted out on the day of the race directing people to the registration area at the back entrance of the high school.

The race was hosted by the Marble Valley Runners (MVR), a local running club that puts on several races each year. MVR hosted the First Night 5k for Rutland's last First Night celebration in 2006, which attracted almost 100 runners and close to 500 spectators.

There was food and drink available for runners and spectators alike, and there were locker rooms for runners to change/shower.

Prizes were awarded to the first male and female finishers and to the finisher with the best costume; the Tribune will announce the winners in an upcoming issue. The race took place in Rutland City with the course running mainly on sidewalks and city streets.
