TICONDEROGA - The Cobbler's Bench, a long-time business hub in downtown Ticonderoga, is closing.
The Montcalm Street furniture store will begin a going-out-of-business sale Jan. 14 and close when its inventory is gone, said owner Charles Eisenberg.
The store opened 29 years ago February.
Eisenberg is quick to point out the store is not closing because of economic concerns.
"I'm retiring," he said. "I'll be 76 years old next month; it's time. My wife has been after me to retire for four years, but I always wondered what I would do with my time. I guess I'll find out."
Eisenberg said he'll miss the business and his customers.
"It's been a great 29 years," he said. "People in the area are very nice. I can honestly say my customer base has been a pleasure to do business with."
Eisenberg plans to sell the main street building once the Cobbler's Bench closes.
Until then, he said, people can expect to find some good furniture buys as his inventory is liquidated.
"There will be some good deals," he promised.
