This year's Bolton Classic Ice Fishing Derby will be held Feb. 21 at Veteran's Park from 5:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Classes are Lake Trout, Landlocked Salmon, Northern Pike and Perch. All participants must pre-register at an area bait shop. The local chamber will not be open for registrations the day of the Derby.
Three prizes will be awarded in each category. Registration is $20 for adults and $5 for children. The Bolton Landing Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Glens Falls are sponsoring the Derby. For further information and entry forms call Karl Klein at 518-743-1116.
Sembrich membership increases
The membership of Sembrich Memorial increased by over 55 percent in 2008, bringing the number of members to 274. In 2008, the Board of Directors established new categories of membership for families and seniors. Member renewals are mailed in the spring of each year, however members can renew or join at any time. Contact the office for membership information.
Emergency Squad seeks help
The Bolton Emergency Squad is in need of assistance. They are now actively recruiting new members. Those who have free time to volunteer and help the community are asked to call Linda Frazier 365-0220 or Koren Lasher 361-9094, or log on to www.Boltonfirerescue.org for an application. Drivers, EMTs, and Advanced EMTs are needed. No experience is necessary -- the squad will provide the necessary training.
Bolton EMS handles approximately 300 calls a year with a majority of them occurring in June, July and August. Calls take on the average of 2 & 1/2 hours with lake or mountain locations longer. Time involved in squad membership is substantial, considering the duration of runs and training.
