Defayette takes AVCS principalship

SARANAC - The AuSable Valley Central School District will welcome a long-time educator as one of the newest members of its administration.

Aimee Defayette, Morrisonville, has accepted the position of principal at AuSable Valley High School; her first day will be Jan. 20. Defayette takes on the position recently vacated by Laura J. Marlow, who now serves as superintendent of the Northern Adirondack Central School District in Ellenburg Depot.

Defayette comes to the AuSable Valley school system from the Saranac Central School District, where she has served as assistant principal of Saranac Central High School since 2007. Prior to her role there, she was employed for 14 years with Champlain Valley Educational Services in Plattsburgh. There, she specialized in professional development and special education, working with 17 local school districts.

District superintendent Paul D. Savage II said Defayette was one of 15 applicants for the position, whose educational background and personality made her stand out from what he called an already strong pool of candidates.

"We were very impressed with her personal and communication skills and obviously her experience as an administrator," said Savage. "It was a very solid pool and Aimee was the individual whom the committee felt rose to the top. She brings some enthusiasm and integrity to our school and we're excited about that."

"Great things are happening at AVCS and with Aimee coming on board, it's just going to enhance what's already being accomplished and what can be accomplished in the future," he added.

Defayette said she looks forward to serving the students of AuSable Valley, bringing "strong leadership" and "new ideas" to an established, veteran administration.

"I'm looking forward to working with the staff to develop any areas they feel they need to improve and to continue the great work they're already doing," she said. "They really are an outstanding faculty. It really is a privilege for me to be stepping into this role."
