A photo of George and Nancy's grandson, Hunter, drawing Powell's winning ticket appears on the front page of the Feb. 7 edition of our Adirondack Journal.
"It's just a cool story," Powell said. "I'm actually wearing the gloves I won in the picture where I'm holding the fish."
Powell plans to have the fish mounted by taxidermist Jamie Frasier of Olmstedville.
Special snow goose season upcoming
In order to control a burgeoning snow goose population, the Department of Environmental Conservation has approved a special hunting season from March 11-April 15.
Under the new state regulations, any person who has migratory game bird hunting privileges in New York, including a valid Harvest Information Program ("HIP") confirmation number, may take snow geese in the Western, Northeastern, Southeastern, and Lake Champlain Waterfowl Hunting Zones.
Shooting hours are from 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset. The bag limit is 15 per day with no possession limit. Electronic calls and unplugged shotguns (more than three shells) may be used, although non-toxic shot must be used.
