WARRENSBURG - The popular Christian relationship drama "Fireproof" will be presented 6 p.m. Sunday March 1 at First Baptist Church of Warrensburg, and the public is invited. There is no admission charge.
The film stars Kirk Cameron - of the television series Growing Pains - as Caleb Holt, a fireman who is courageous at work, but is clueless about communication and empathy in his marriage, according to reviewers.
Portraying the roller-coaster emotions of married life, the film offers faith as a remedy for healing a marriage that seems doomed.
Fighting with his attractive wife Catherine over trivial issues, Caleb needs a new way to approach his relationship.
The two are on the verge of obtaining a divorce when Caleb's father and coworkers urge him to approach his marriage in the same way he fights fire - fearlessly and with reason and purpose, while abandoning his self-centered interests.
When Caleb's father gives him the "Love Dare," a 40-day guide to revitalizing one's marriage, Caleb begins a difficult journey to reclaim his wife, and in the process, his faith in God. With several action-packed and suspenseful scenes, Fireproof employs firefighting metaphors in its exploration of marriage.
First Baptist's Pastor Roger Richards said this week that Fireproof will offer inspiration as well as providing insights into relationships.
"Anyone who has ever been married more than a year will relate to some aspect of this film and should find it very helpful, entertaining, and just downright good," he said, noting that the "Love Dare" manual is available at Wal-Mart.
