Hydro energy a possible power option - again

The Addison County Regional Planning Commission Energy Committee has invited Ben Gordesky, founder of Earthbound Services, LLC, to present a program on Community Hydro Power Projects on Feb. 26, 7-9 p.m., at their offices at 14 Seminary St. in Middlebury.

Gordesky is a graduate of the Solar Energy International Micro Hydro course. He has an M.Sc. degree in hydrogeology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and eight years of experience in the civil engineering and environmental consulting fields.

Ben will present a comprehensive program on community-scale hydropower, including the mechanics of hydropower, possible design variations, given available head and flow levels, and the opportunity to use hydropower without creating new dams. He will walk through the process of preliminary site assessment, feasibility analysis, and meeting regulatory requirements.

Ballpark system costs and the potential for financial incentives, as well as financing, will also be covered. This will be a thorough presentation on the potential for community-based hydropower. The Energy Committee welcomes your participation in what is expected to be a lively discussion of this renewable energy technology and its potential for expansion in Addison County.

If you are unable to attend, you can watch the program on Middlebury Community TV - check their program schedule.
