LEWIS - A fight started by inmates at the new Essex County Jail left five guards injured and prompted a lockdown at part of the facility Feb. 6.
Essex County Sheriff's office spokesman Major David Reynolds, said the injuries to the guards were minor.
"Due to the incident, five officers were sent to the emergency room for precautionary measures and released," said Reynolds. "The investigation is ongoing and arrests will be made in the near future."
The lockdown was lifted the day after the incident, but the Sherriff's office is reviewing video footage as part of their investigation to determine how many inmates were involved in the fight.
"We're working with the District Attorney's office to decide what charges to file," Reynolds added.
