Three killed in Sunday afternoon crash

CLINTON - Three people have died as the result of a one-car motor vehicle accident in the town of Clinton Sunday afternoon.

According to New York State Police, Veronica L. Leclair, 38, Ellenburg Center, was operating a 2007 Ford Mustang convertible north on U.S. Route 11 Feb. 8. Shortly after 3 p.m., she reportedly failed to negotiate a curve, sending the vehicle off the road and into a snowbank. The vehicle was also believed to have overturned several times before coming to rest on the east shoulder of the road.

Leclair, as well as two passengers, her son, Stephen M. Foster, 15; and stepson, Travis L. Leclair, 15, also of Ellenburg Center, were killed in the accident.

Seventeen-year-old Kyle C. Bushey and 18-year-old Joshua P. Bombardier, both of Altona, were transported to CVPH Medical Center for their injuries. Bushey was transferred with a head injury to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., where he was originally listed in critical condition and expected to undergo surgery. Bombardier was treated for a back injury and last listed stable condition.

Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors based upon the preliminary investigation, though the accident remained under investigation as of Tuesday morning.

Northern Adirondack Central School District superintendent Laura J. Marlow said counselors will continue to offer their support to students if they feel the need to talk.
