Popular website updates its Hinesburg listing

HINESBURG - From time to time, this newspaper will alert readers to important Internet-based listings of Vermont towns in our area. The latest redressing treatment with both new and revised information is on Wikipedia, the popular Internet-based encyclopedia site.

Wikipedia relies on contributors to supply content and links for the website's thousands of information articles. Contributors are asked to reference all text claims or face having their contributed content deleted. While public perception is that just about anyone can fabricate or alter Wikipedia articles, the opposite is true. Will contributors may sneak in a false statement, Wikipedia editors and readers peruse content and search for false claims. When found and tagged, such content is deleted. By and large, Wikipedia articles are accurate and oftentimes include details not found in traditional encyclopedias.

Among recently added articles that reference Vermont towns in our area is Wikipedia's new "Hinesburg" listing.

The article, including census data about the town, is referenced with both U.S. Census and town data sources. Wikipedia articles may be republished, with attribution, and are largely in the public domain with some exceptions.

The following extract is from the new Hinesburg town listing.
