North Warren youth share the joys of reading

CHESTERTOWN - North Warren area youngsters received gifts this week that are designed to stimulate their imagination and afford them some fun as well.

The Friends of the Horicon Free Public Library collected books last summer for their "Read-A-Book, Pass-It-On" program which benefits the students in Head Start and North Warren Elementary School, from kindergarten through sixth grade.

The library's volunteers will be distributing their books this Friday.

The goal of the program is to interest students in reading merely for fun, program organizers said. The program encourages the students to share the joy, too, by passing on their book to a friend after they are finished with it.

Every year the volunteers see the children come into the library and get excited at the opportunity to choose their special book.

This enthusiasm is what this program is all about, according to "Read a Book" volunteers and North Warren teachers.

Some of the students prefer to keep their book for their very own, and that is welcomed too, they said.
