Forty-year town employee to retire

The Clever Quilting Group plans to meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday Feb. 20. For more information on what you need to get started in the group, call Myra at 623-2633. The quilting group's meetings are held at the town hall twice a month, and they are open to all.

Near the end of January, yellow finches were visiting a bird feeder on Sky-Hi Road - Is Spring near? Two days after the sighting, however, we were blanketed with an additional 14 inches of snow, and school was canceled.

Has anyone started to write or jot down memories of the bygone days for the John Thurman Historical Society Quarterly?

A reminder to all taxpayers to stop at your assessors office for the tax exemption forms which musty be filled out before the March 1 deadline.

Questions that are asked frequently in and around our neck of the country but are difficult to answer. Do you have the answers ?

1) Do children know what the Golden Rule is?

2) Are there any honest politicians in government?

3) Are there any doctors left who take fresh garden produce as payment for office visits?

4) Are there people in our community who would like to volunteer to assist? Do some folks think that their time and talent really would not help a cause?

Seniors work on bringing cheer to soldiers

The Sugar Loaf Mountain Seniors Club met Saturday Jan. 17 with 16 members attending. The club extended a warm welcome to three new members and sat down together to enjoy a covered-dish luncheon.

The club is now working to fill two gift boxes of goods to be sent to soldiers from Thurman who are serving their country in Iraq.

Citizens are urged to donate what they can to help fill these boxes, and bring their goods to the group's February meeting Saturday Feb. 21.
