United Way, Browse Trust to hold board workshop

RUTLAND - United Way of Rutland County and the James T. Bowse Health Trust are offering the fourth series of "Project Board Member Development," a nonprofit board member training course, running Feb. 24-March 31 at Heritage Family Credit Union on West Street in Rutland.

The purpose of the course is to develop skills in members of the community who are considering board service or who are currently serving as a new board member. This program may be of interest to area organizations which need to develop and retain board members.

The course is a six-part series, meeting each Tuesday from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with lunch provided. The series is coordinated by United Way of Rutland County and The James T. Bowse Community Health Trust. Other sponsors of the program include PEG TV, Heritage Family Credit Union, Rutland Heath Foundation, WestView Digital Video & Design, Rutland Regional Medical Center and the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce.

Topics covered include: defining the role of a board member, organizational development and fundraising, finances and budgets, organizational oversight, and liability and legal matters.
