ALCA announces workshop schedule

BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE - Looking for something to do this winter and spring to cure that cabin fever? Head over to the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts and sign up for one of the many winter/spring workshops.

Two cooking classes for adults and teens will be held at the Blue Mountain Lake Fire Hall. Space is limited, so be sure to register early.

•Feb. 21, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Alan Stafford, chef at Blue Mountain Center, will teach you how to make three different French tarts. $15 for non-members and $10 for members.

•March 7, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. With Theresa Taylor's expert instruction, you will learn to make authentic Mexican tamales and more. $15/$10.

At the Arts Center in Blue Mountain Lake:

•March 28, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs). Annette Clarke will teach the art of, using wax resist to create intricately decorated Easter eggs. This popular workshop is an annual favorite, so register early. $25/$20 plus $5 materials fee. For adult and teens.

•April 18 and April 25, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Woodcarving with James Kries. If you saw his exhibit at the Arts Center this past fall, you know how talented he is. Students will explore and find what they see in their mind's eye that is waiting to be uncovered in the wood. Call for supply list and to register. $55/$50 plus $20 materials fee; best suited for adults. Open studio time may be scheduled. ($5/free to members)

May 9 and May 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mosaics with Susan Sessions. Learn techniques to create a mosaic piece for use indoors with a mix of ceramic, glass, stone and found objects. Call for a materials and equipment list. $50/$45 plus $5 materials fee - for adults and teens. Open studio time may be scheduled ($5/free to members)
