Meet the Three Sopranos for The Little Prince Lead Role

Opera Theatre of Weston will present The Little Prince opera, based upon the cherished story by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, with music by Academy Award-winning composer, Rachel Portman.

Performing in the title role of the "Little Prince" are three boy sopranos.

Taylor Ampatiellos, of Rutland, is OTW's "Little Prince" for the three orchestrated public performances in January.

Sam Kratzer, of North Bennington and Simon Kahan, of Hanover, NH, are doublecast as the "Little Prince" for the specially adapted one-hour length version of the opera to be attended by 2400 southern Vermont students at eight daytime school performances.

Ampatiellos, an eighth grader at Rutland Middle School, performed in OTW's production of The Happy Prince (2008), with the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company as "Gavroche" in Les Miserables, and was cast in the Hallmark Channel's holiday movie Moonlight & Mistletoe (Willy).

Taylor has also appeared with the Brandon Town Players in The Sound of Music, the Vermont Actors' Repertory Theatre in A Christmas Carol, and in several productions with the Rutland Youth Theatre.

Kratzer attends the seventh grade at Maple Street School in Manchester. He has performed in a number of productions with the Dorset Players, most recently performing the leading role of "Colin" in The Secret Garden.

Sam has participated as a vocalist in the Vermont District Chorus and enjoys playing the viola and piano.

Ten year old Kahan is a regular performer with Northern Stage Theatre Co.

He is a founding member of their Youth Ensemble and made his film debut in the 2007 independent film, Safety Deposit Dreams.

Simon is a fifth grader at the Bernice Ray School in Hanover.

OTW's professionally staged, costumed, and orchestrated production of The Little Prince will be presented at the Dorset Playhouse on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 4 p.m., and at the Weston Playhouse on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m.
