Oakland, a trained air-scent dog with Champlain Valley K-9 Search and Rescue Unit, visited Keeseville Elementary School Dec. 11 to thank students there for a penny drive that raised $586 to go toward stem-cell replacement surgery of a torn achilles tendon in his leg. The K-9 Unit has relied on donations to cover most of the cost of the several-thousand-dollar surgery.
