Labyrinth of Lights at Walpole Unitarian Church

It's the annual time to step out of the hectic season and join others from the community in walking the traditional "Labyrinth of Lights" at the Walpole Unitarian Church. Located in the Ballroom on the upper level of the Hastings Memorial Parish House on Union Street in Walpole, the labyrinth opens on Sunday, Dec. 20 with a solstice blessing ritual at 7 p.m.

The labyrinth is formed of pine boughs sparkling with white lights. Visitors are invited to walk the labyrinth in semi-darkness, soft music playing, and are provided with a candle to bring into the center. As each candle is added the center, the labyrinth glows with ever increasing brilliance.

The labyrinth has been a popular tradition of the church for many years, and is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. through the end of the month with the exception of Christmas Eve when it is open 2-4 p.m. and Christmas Day when it is closed.

On Thursday, Dec. 31 you are invited to usher out the old year in ritual, song and dance at 7 p.m. Please come early enough to walk the labyrinth before the service begins. Join us for a truly magical and contemplative experience.

The church is also planning its annual Christmas Eve service on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. at the church located on the corner of Main and Union streets. Led by the Reverend Telos Whitfield, the service is a chance to enjoy the season in story, traditional carols, and a candlelight vigil.

The Walpole Unitarian Church invites you to step away from the bustle and stress of the holiday season and experience a few moments of tranquility by attending any of these special events.

All events are free and open to the public, with donations gratefully accepted. However only the church is handicapped accessible at this time.
