Basics of chemistry portrayed to students

Chemist John Fisher recently demonstrated the phenomenon of "phase change" Nov. 13 for second- and third- graders. Students took part in activities that included water changing from a solid into a liquid and into a gas and back again. They also learned about changes for dry ice and liquid nitrogen. Among many demonstrations, Fisher showed the young students how the air in a balloon can change to a liquid, then to a solid and then back to a gas to reinflate a balloon.
