Movies return to downtown Rutland

RUTLAND - Motion pictures will return to the big screen in downtown Rutland. Movieplex 9, which closed last month, will reopen Dec. 18, according to its new owner.

The new owner, Flagship Cinemas Inc. of Massachusetts, will lease the cinema through the Rutland Shopping Plaza.

Flagship will also improve the theater, according to a Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce source.

More comfortable theater seats, an upgraded sound system, an expanded concession stand, and new carpeting will be added. Flagship has also said it will install a trendy $100,000 3-D system which will be designed for one of the nine main-screen projectors.
