Countryside controversy has quieted for now

Hayes set a limit on the number of guests per Countryside resident attending an annual picnic, which formerly offered free food for unlimited numbers of guests and family members. In response, Countryside staff chose to eliminate the event, she said. The annual Christmas Bazaar was also eliminated, as it involved substantial staff labor.

Substitute activities, including a World Series party, were introduced, however.

Warren County Budget Officer Kevin Geraghty said Hayes was doing a remarkable job in cutting costs.

"Brenda got the hell beat out of her by some people for doing the right thing on behalf of county taxpayers," he said. "we're telling her to cut expenses, and let me tell you, she gets it."
