Concert series continues wraps up; Gratto on tap

TICONDEROGA - The Tuesday Concert Series of the Ticonderoga Festival Guild concludes on Aug. 11 with a concert by the Ticonderoga Community Band at 6:30 p.m. Megan Wall will be assistant director and Joe Vilardo, tenor soloist. Note that this is an earlier time due to the need for better light for the musicians.

A dip dinner will be served by board members at 5 p.m. under the tent on Aug. 11. Salads, hot dishes and desserts will be available for 25 cents a dip. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs.

The Ticonderoga Community Band was formed 12 years ago under the direction of Patricia Cornell. For the past nine years, the group has performed a summer concert under the tent, and for three years this has been part of the concert schedule. The band presents two concerts a year, the Tiny Tim concert in December, and the summer concerts, in which musicians from all overm erge their talents under the superb direction of Mrs. Cornell. States usually represented include Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee and Washington, as well as New York. Ages range from 9 to 85. Far from being amateur players, this group produces some of the finest music in the area. Programs include show tunes and classics.

Tickets for the concerts are $10 for adults and $5 for students, available at the entrance and at Rathbun Jewelers on Montcalm Street in Ticonderoga. Those who attend should bring their own lawn chairs. Refreshments will be provided at intermission.

Sponsor for the evening concert is the Rotary Club of Northern New York. The Festival Guild is supported by grants from the New York Council on the Arts, by donations from area businesses and by memberships from local residents and visitors. Information is available at 585-6716.

Arts Trek program

The final Arts Trek program for children on August 12 will be Stephen Gratto, juggler extraordinare, in a program called "Don't Try This At Home," at 10:15 AM.
