CHAZY - Prom season can be a time of year when parents worry what their children are doing once the dancing's over. However, Chazy Central Rural Central School is continuing its efforts to put those worries to rest.
The school will host its second annual after-prom party this Saturday, May 2, from midnight until 5 a.m. Sunday morning.
Teaching assistant Karen Pepper, who heads up the after-prom party committee, said the event was such a hit last year it was decided to bring it back as a safe alternative to other activities kids could find themselves involved with after prom.
"Last year, we had 45 students in the junior class and 42 attended and stayed for the after-prom party," said Pepper. "This year, we have 36 juniors and as far as I know, they're all planning on attending."
The appeal, said Pepper, comes from the dozens of activities the committee has again planned for the event and the dozens of free prizes that will be given away. Relay contests and games are being organized for the school pool, which will be open to students that night. In addition, a hot tub will be set up in the pool area to give the students a chance to relax after a night of dancing.
"The pool area is definitely a main attraction because we decorate it like a tropical paradise," said Pepper.
In the school's gymnasium, ping-pong, foosball and air hockey tables will be setup up, as well as inflatable games and a Dance Dance Revolution video game.
The party will also include free massages from a local masseuse and tarot card readings.
"We have a lot of the same activities that we had last year, plus a few new ones," said Pepper.
Though there will be enough activities to keep the students entertained into the wee hours of the morning, those who run out of steam will have a place to go, said Pepper.
