Eagles will be led by veteran lineup

WESTPORT - With a 5-7 record last year, the Westport Eagles advanced into the second round of the Section VII class D playoffs. This year, they hope to build on that success.

Westport returns seven veteran starters, five of whom are seniors, and the entire pitching staff from last season.

Included in the returnees are 2008 first team all-stars Michael Tyler and Kevin Russell, second team all-stars Colin MacIver and Zach Sherman, and honorable mention Nick Robare. Tyler Atwell and Jesse Stevens also return to solidify the infield.

New this year are upperclassmen Sean Davis and Alan Ware, as well as sophomores David Quaglietta and Alex Frum. Ethan Markwica joins as a promising freshman.

"The real keys to our success this year will be how well our new players adapt to varsity baseball and if our defense can play up to their potential," said head coach Don Markwica. "These along with an experienced core group of players should allow us to be competitive this season."
