Brakeley is Legion's Citizen of the Year

Peter Brakeley, Middlebury American Legion Post 27's, Citizen of the Year received a plaque acknowledging his achievement and contributions to the Middlebury community. Brakeley was awarded this honor during festivities celebrating the 90th Birthday of the American Legion. It was attended by members of Post 27, along with representatives from the Vermont State Legion Headquarters and the National Executive Committee.

Brakeley, who is a social studies teacher at Middlebury Union Middle School, is a graduate of Middlebury Union High School and Middlebury College and subsequently received a MS degree from Syracuse College. He is a fixture in local football, having coached for over three decades, and has been the head football coach at MUHS since 1993. He has been named the Division I Coach of the Year, as well as Vermont State Coach of the Year, on three occasions, has been inducted into the MUHS "Hall of Fame". He has been an ardent advocate of sportsmanship and the building of character both as a teacher and a coach. He is also involved in many other areas of the community service as a volunteer. Peter resides in Middlebury with his wife, Dr. Johana Brakeley. They have three children, August, Rebecca, and Harlan.
