Schroon cager named MVP

SCHROON LAKE - Ethan Tyrrell of Schroon Lake is once again Most Valuable Player in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

The league announced its boys and girls all-star basketball teams last week.

Tyrrell averaged 20.9 points a game for the Wildcats, leading them to the MVAC Division I championship. A senior, he closed his career with more than 1,000 points.

Tyrrell was co-MVP of the conference last season.

Joining him on the Division I all-star team are teammate Brennan Bush, Alex Hamel of Willsboro, Lucas Strong of Willsboro, Shea Howley of Chazy and Evan Drew of Elizabethtown-Lewis.

Bush, a junior, was the second-leading scorer for the Wildcats with 10.9 points a contest.

Crown Point's John Budwick was named to the Division II all-star team.

Budwick, a junior, averaged 18.2 points a game for the Panthers, who advanced to the Section VII Class D quarterfinals. He also had 10 double-doubles. Budwick was named to the MVAC second team last season.

Also on the Division II all-star team are MVP Nathan Gay of Westport, Bo McKinley of Westport, Ben Gaddy of Bolton and Curtis Mead of Westport.

The Division III all-star team features MVP Nick McCarroll of Johnsburg, Jeff Reynolds of Indian Lake/Long Lake, Kris Bain of Indian Lake/Long Lake, Kevin Yandon of Minerva-Newcomb, Rob Fish of Wells and Josh Harvey of Johnsburg.

Girls

Ashley Whitty of Schroon Lake was named to the MVAC Division I girls all-star team.

Whitty, a senior, averaged a team-high 15.1 points a game for the Wildcats and helped them advance to the Section VII Class D semifinals.

Whitty was named to the MVAC first team last season.

Joining Whitty on the Division I all-star team are MVP Ashley Sherman of Willsboro, Riley Diemand of Elizabethtown-Lewis, Kelsey Gibson of Elizabethtown-Lewis, Jennifer Murphy of Willsboro and Stephanie Pepper of Chazy.
