Schroon entertains

SCHROON LAKE - Schroon Lake enters the 2009 Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference baseball season with hopes of a championship.

A year ago the Wildcats were 9-3 in MVAC play, 11-5 overall.

Some key players return from the squad, including all-star hurler Ethan Tyrrell.

"We should have a strong year," Coach Mike Sharp said. "I believe Chazy will challenge us for Division I, but we have a good shot of doing well this year. Inexperience may play a role, but I've got some good young talent and the rest of the team is behind them."

Helping Sharp manage the team will be a versatile squad with several players able to man multiple positions.

Tyrrell will be the ace of the Wildcat pitching staff. He'll be joined on the hill by Brian Horton, Brennan Bush, Wesley Beers, Lance Paradis and Matt Savarie.

The infield will include Horton, Tyrrell, Tyler Sabia, Bush, Nick Langabeer, Beers and Anthony Vanderwalker.

In the outfield the Wildcats will relay on Taylor Gath, Sabia, Bush, Langabeer, Chris Veverka, Justin Wachowski, Jeremy Tyrrell and Anthony Santiago.

Vanderwalker, Jeremy Tyrrell and Santiago will catch.

Paradis and Savarie will fill utility roles.

Highlighting the season will be a game against MVAC rival Chazy to be played at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, the birthplace of baseball and home to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
