PORT HENRY - Moriah enters the 2009 baseball season with optimism.
"Returning nine players from last year, we hope to improve on our record from last year and get better as the year continues," Coach Casey Nephew said.
The Vikings were 5-11 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action and 6-13 overall last spring.
Leading Moriah this spring will be pitcher/outfielder Tim Martin. In 2008 Martin topped the club in hitting with a .375 average and anchored the pitching staff with four wins and a save.
Nick Marcotte and Nathan Woods will line up at first base for the Vikings. Joining them are middle infielders Eric Baker, Tyler Trombley and Nathan Woods along with third basemen Tim Armstrong and Ryan Mascarenas.
Moriah will feature Tyler Blaise, Martin, Caleb Harvish, Tom Wheelock, Jud Zelinski and Daryk Budwick in the outfield.
Catchers are Mascarenas and Tom Wheelock.
Martin, Mascarenas, Blaise and Baker comprise the pitching staff.
Nephew is being assisted by Mike Mascarenas with the coaching duties.
