Chimney fire in River Road home

On April 1 at about 5 p.m., a woman who asked to remain anonymous heard a roaring noise outside her home which sounded much like a jet plane. She started to go outside when she noticed another woman rushing up her driveway and stepping out the door she heard the Good Samaritan shouting for her to call 911 as she saw flames shooting out the chimney. The homeowner is so very grateful to these unknown folks who stopped by and alerted her and then waited for the fire company to arrive. Special thanks also to C.J. Johnson and Kim Trapasso who came to help and to the Thurman volunteer fire company for their quick response and expertise in putting the fire out before it could spread.

Personal news

A celebration of birthdays for three ladies was held April 1 in Glens Falls. Bea Bevins and her daughter Mary Williams, both of Glens Falls, and Charlotte Needham of Thurman - who had recent birthdays - enjoyed lunch with other guests, including Billy McGovern, Trish and Jeff Smith, Guy Bevins, and Joan Carpenter all of Glens Falls and Laura Cameron of Thurman. A big birthday cake was enjoyed, and 86-year-old Bea Bevins played Happy Birthday on an organ.
