Local organizations announce environmental fair

PLATTSBURGH - Champlain Valley Family Center's Learn and Serve America Program and the League of Women Voters of the Plattsburgh area have announced their upcoming Environmental/Global Awareness Fair at the Champlain Centre Mall. The fair will take place during Global Youth Awareness week and the week of Earth Day, April 26, from 12-2 p.m. Participants will consist of Plattsburgh City School district students, Saranac Middle School students, Girl Scouts and other concerned citizens and organizations teaching the public ways to protect our planet. Currently more than 25 booths will display environmental and global issues. Stop Domestic Violence will be collecting used cell phones. Students from Momot's, A Step Ahead program will collect used batteries.

The event will kick-off at 12 p.m. with speakers: Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, Plattsburgh town supervisor Bernie Bassett and Plattsburgh City Mayor Donald Kasprzak.
