LAKE GEORGE - Motorists passing by Lake George High School before dawn Saturday shouldn't be surprised if they see people lined up outside the high school.
It's bound to be people waiting for hours to buy tickets to see the luminous smile of the school's most famous graduate, Rachael Ray, up close.
Ray - a celebrity cook, talk show host, author, magazine mogul and 1986 Lake George High School graduate - will be giving her eighth annual cooking demonstration and fan reception 7 p.m. Monday, May 11, in the high school.
The event is followed by a complimentary buffet with professional chefs preparing Ray recipes on-site.
The event is a fundraiser for the Lake George Alumni Association
Annually a sellout, tickets go on sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 4. Tickets cost $25 and there's a limit of four a person.
For last year's show, local people waited in line as early as 4:30 a.m. and tickets sold out within two hours.
This year, the line will be forming at the high school auditorium doors. No pre-orders of tickets or phone sales are accepted.
Association President Gloria Gilman praised Ray's generosity, noting the celebrity has annually donated her time plus made other substantial donations to the event, a landmark in the school calendar.
The association has raised $80,000 during last eight years, most all of it proceeds from Ray's shows.
Following the demonstration, Ray has traditionally greeted fans one-by-one, autographing her books.
In past years, some people have sought Ray to sign as many as 10 books, but now there's a limit of one or two autographs apiece.
Noting the celebrity's generosity and durable smile, Gilman said that one year Ray stayed until 11:30 p.m. to greet fans and sign all the autographs they requested.
"Rachael just doesn't like to disappoint anybody," she said. "She is a very giving person and very thoughtful."
