Teens charged with burglarizing homes

ELIZABETHTOWN - State Police have charged two 18-year-olds in connection with a string of burglaries in Essex County.

Zachary C. Sloan of Elizabethtown and Steven T. Plank of Lewis were arrested by State Police in Lewis March 26 following an investigation into seven burglaries reported in Elizabethtown, Lewis, and Westport in March.

More than $1,000 worth of personal property was stolen as a result of the break-ins, police say.

Sloan was charged with second degree burglary and Plank with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property. Both were arraigned before Elizabethtown Town Justice William Garrison and committed to Essex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond.

The investigation is a joint effort between the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Essex County Sheriff's Department. It remains ongoing with further arrests and charges pending.

Police have asked for anyone with additional information regarding these break-ins to contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 873-2799.
