BRANT LAKE - The regional community has again shown support for a local charity that has made a national name for itself.
The 10th annual Scott Remington & Friends Spinal Cord Research Benefit Gala, set for Saturday, is sold out, and contributions over the decade have topped $300,000, Remington said Sunday.
"I really appreciate everything people in the area communities have done to make it such a successful fundraiser," he said.
For this year's benefit event, the format was changed from a social gathering with appetizers open to the public, to a sit-down dinner with attendance limited to 300.
In the past, as many as 500 people have attended.
Scott Remington said that a sit-down dinner was a way to appropriately mark the 10th anniversary.
"We wanted to do something different for the occasion," he said. "But we really didn't want to exclude anybody - unfortunately there's no place up here where we can accommodate 500 or more for dinner."
Those seeking to donate are encouraged to send checks to Spinal Cord Research Benefit, c/o Scott Remington, 461 Pease Hill Rd., Brant Lake 12815.
Checks can be made out to Scott Remington Family & Friends or the Christopher Reeve Foundation.
Reeve's son, Matthew, is expected to attend the April 4 gala and talk about how vital the contributions from the lower Adirondacks have been in furthering spinal cord research.
