Olympic Skills' basketball open to youth

GLENS FALLS - Local youth ages 8 to 13 are invited to participate in the Junior Olympic Skills Competition at the Glens Falls Family YMCA, and the basketball tryouts are set for Saturday April 4. This free grassroots youth program allows both boys and girls, in separate divisions, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in four events - basketball, soccer, tennis and track and field. The program is designed to encourage youth participation in sports.

In the basketball tryouts children test their skills by shooting baskets from designated spots in a time limit of 45 seconds. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and competition starts at 11 a.m.

The Soccer and Tennis tryouts are May 2, and Track & Field is scheduled for May 9.

Champions from this local qualifying event advance to regional competitions the \\n the national finals in late July at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.
