Everybody's trying to get into the act at PHS

World War II-era comedian Jimmy Durante used to humorously chide straight men for trying to be funny on stage-"Everybody's trying to get into the act," he'd say. Durante's classic signature comment was in evidence at a recent Poultney High School assembly.

The PHS English Language Arts Department hosted a coffee house presentation in the gym and both faculty and students showed their stuff "on stage".

Students volunteered to perform in front of the whole school. Katie Ann Simons sang a song in French, while several teachers got in the act-Mr. Lynam played piano, Mrs. Filskov and a group of 20 students sang and danced to a French song, Mr. Baker and Mr. Holliman sang and played guitar. Nate Bourn and Scotty Williams accompanied Baker.

Bill Bassler played a riveting song on the piano. A group of ten teachers, IAs, and students, under the direction of Linda Smith, performed a rewritten "Macbeth". Staci Jedlick and Brylea Betit also performed.
