Coach: "Warrior hockey players are progressing"

LAKE GEORGE Approaching the halfway point of their 2008 season, Lake George High Schools Varsity hockey team is playing with determination and heart toward their goal of achieving a winning season, Coach Heather Usher said this week. Now 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Adirondack League, the Warriors are gaining individual skills and developing their teamwork, she said. Sept 17, the squad played Hadley-Luzerne and won 6-0, followed with a 0-3 loss to Johnsburg. Their prior matchups included a 0-2 loss to Warrensburg, which captured the league, Section II and regional titles in 2007. Usher said in that game, the Warrior defense performed well, holding Warrensburg scoreless until the second half. Three days earlier, the Warriors showed their determination in beating Schuylerville 3-2 in overtime. Were doing better we have strong leaders on the team and young players that are adapting well to the varsity level, Usher said. Our corners are successful and our forwards are creating more scoring opportunities. First-string Warrior Goalie Jordyn Conway is blocking a lot of shots, making a considerable difference in the scoring outcome each matchup, she said. Our entire defense has kept us in the game, she said. This week, the Warriors were scheduled to play North Warren on Wednesday and Corinth on Friday. Next week the Warriors face Warrensburg on Wednesday and Hadley-Luzerne on Friday in league rematches, Usher said Were moving ahead, she said. And were optimistic about the rest of the season.
