RUTLAND An investigation spearheaded by the Rutland County Sheriffs Department found a Vermont State Police trooper, who accidently killed a Rutland City Police Department dog, was not to blame in the incident. The K-9 unit, named King Luther, jumped out of a Rutland City police car while his city police officer handler was setting up highway spikes during a widely publicized high-speed chase incident last month. After his leap fromt he car, the dog was hit by a VSP cruiser car that arrived as support during the high-speed chase incident. The Rutland County Sheriff's Department said the trooper acted appropriately and did not see King Luther until it was too late.
