Happy anniversary

Tom and Kathy Karkoski were happy, sad, proud. They experienced the entire range of emotion as their granddaughter Naomi Beuerlein married Derek Ross last weekend. It was a wonderful celebration of a young couple embarking on a life together. And while careful not to take the spotlight from the newlyweds, the Karkoski family also made the event a celebration of another couples life together. Tom and Kathy (Ida) Karkoski are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend. Tom and Kathy understand the importance of family. Together theyve raised four children Kateri, Mark, Matt and Maria. Theyve also led a large family of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ticonderoga, Moriah, Schroon Lake and beyond, its hard to go someplace and not find a Karkoski-Ida relative. And there is the extended family. When their son Matt moved next door years ago we got more than a friend and neighbor. We got a family. Just a few months after meeting them, Tom and Kathy invited my family to the Polish Open. Besides being golfs fifth major tournament, the event includes a picnic that serves as the Karkoski family reunion. Although no one in the Herbst family can do a decent polka, Tom and Kathy welcomed us and made us family. Weve come to understand Toms love of golf and sense of humor (Yes, he tells Polish jokes.). Weve come to realize Kathys meatballs are the best in Ticonderoga (Before going south for the winter she makes and freezes them for those of us left behind) and that shes a saint for putting up with three of the most competitive people in the world, her husband and sons. Its said a person can never have too many friends. It must also be true a person can never have too much family. Were happy to be part of the extended Karkoski family. Happy 50th anniversary.
