Tennis players want improved courts

MINEVILLE Tennis anyone? Mineville residents may be asking each other that very question next summer. A group of tennis enthusiasts recently approached the Mineville VFW about refurbishing the tennis courts located adjacent to the post. Post Commander Pete Rotella, in turn, then approached the town of Moriah asking for help seeking grant money for the project. Rotella noted years ago the town leased the tennis courts from the VFW for public use year round in the summer for tennis and in the winter as an ice skating rink. Moriah Supervisor Tom Scozzafava recalled the agreement. At its Sept. 9 meeting the Moriah town board took no action on the tennis courts, although Scozzafava indicated he would help investigate whether grant money may be available for the improvements at the tennis courts.
