QUEENSBURY A Lake George couple faces grand larceny charges after they took a purse from a motorized shopping cart last month at Queensbury Wal-Mart, police said. Deborah L. Root, 51, and Gerald L. Root, 48, of 57B Helen St. in Lake George were arrested Sept. 9 as suspects in the incident. On Aug. 13, the Warren County Sheriff's Dept. began investigating a report of a purse stolen from a cart which had been returned to the stores charging station by an elderly couple who had used it to navigate the store while shopping, police said. The purse contained credit cards, money, and personal papers, they said. After viewing surveillance video obtained from Wal-Mart security personnel, the Roots were identified as suspects. A police investigation ensued, and Sept. 9 the Roots were arrested and each was charged with one count of fourth-degree Grand Larceny.
