Local youth compete in "Kids Triathlon"

MIDDLEBURY Nearly 60 kids, ages 7 to 14, celebrated the end of summer Sunday in the Vermont Sun Kids Triathlon. On a beautiful sunny, warm afternoon kids, ages 7 to 10, swam 100 yards in the Vermont Sun pool, then rode a three-mile bike loop and ran .6 miles on Exchange Street. The top four finishers were separated by just 18 seconds. Nine year old Nick Wilkerson of Middlebury had the fastest time of 19:36, just 14 seconds ahead of Maxwell Bicknell of Ferrisburg with a time of 19:50. The fastest girl finished second overall. Annina Hare of Middlebury, age 10, was just seconds behind Bicknell with a time of 19:45. The next closest girl, Isabelle Chickanosky of Huntington finished a full 5 minutes and 20 seconds behind Hare in 25:05. Sam Hodges of Cornwall, only eight years old, won boys eight in 19:54. Other nine year old boys had excellent finishes. Pierson Beatty of Middlebury was third in 20:32, followed by Sam Kuhns of North Ferrisburgh, fourth in 21:10, and Camden Willsy of Hinesburg, fifth of 21:27. Wade Mullin of Vergennes was the second seven year old in 28:02. Jessie Hounchell of Cornwall was the first 7 year old girl in 30:11. Isabelle Rosenberg of Cornwall finished second in girls age 8 in 25:40, while Abby Gleason of Middlebury took third in 26:26. Perry Delorenzo led a group of Middlebury 10 year olds boys in 21:09. Andrew Gleason claimed second in 22:15, James Lincoln third in 24:46, Chandler Devaney forth in 25:24 and Silas Mullin of Vergennes was fifth in 26:00. Harriet Milligan was the second best 10 year old girl in 28:05 while Sophie Hodges placed third in 34:08. Eight year old Archie Milligan of Middlebury was first in his group in 24:07 and Zeke Palmer of Vergennes took second in 25:06. The course for the 11 to 14 year olds was twice that of the younger distance (200 yard swim, 6 mile bike, and 1.2 mile run). Eleven year olds Cooper Willsy and Will LaCroix both of Hinesburg battled back and forth with Willsy finishing first in the fastest time of 33:52. LaCroix claimed second just 14 seconds later in 34:06. In the girls 11-year-old group, Julia Rosenberg won in 43:04 while Sophie Peluso claimed second in 46:05. Both are from Cornwall. Matteo Palmer of Vergennes won the boys 12 year old group in 38:00 while Olivia Foshey of Bridport topped the girls in 45:24. Lily Rosenberg of Cornwall won girls 13 in 41:32.
