Bridport-based foundation targets alcoholism

BRIDPORT The Foundation for Alcoholism Research, Inc. (FAR) is a new all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Vermont. The mission of FAR is to raise and distribute funds to perform research in the following areas: causes, identification, detection, prevention, treatment, and cure of/for alcoholism. It is not to provide funds for rehabilitation, detoxification, counseling, or any personal aid to people with this disease. The Foundation for Alcoholism Research, based in Bridport, was formed to advance the knowledge about the devastating disease that is especially damaging to many Vermont families. For years we have seen the progress made in other diseases such as Cancer, Heart Disease, AIDS, Diabetes, and so on partly due to their Foundationswe have not seen the same progress in Alcoholism. I have never been asked for $1 for alcoholism, said the foundations Peg Calder. And yet, it touches so many aspects of all our lives, the person, their family, the justice system, the workplace, and traffic accidents. FAR will hold its first fundraising event on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury.
