Mooers Elementary closed due to mold-like substance

MOOERS A substance which appeared to be mold was found on a carpet in the Matthews Wing of Mooers Elementary School Sept. 15, prompting the administration to close school the following day. According to a statement from the school administration, while the rest of the district is in session, three classrooms at the elementary building are potentially affected by the situation. All five classrooms in the wing will be relocated. St. Josephs Parish, located adjacent to the school, is allowing the use of their building for first grade classes. Kindergarten classes will be relocated within the school to keep the students in a familiar setting. The district is working on the logistics of teaching from this satellite location. The furniture is being relocated and the carpets removed to assess the situation. Once the situation is remediated, the carpet will be replaced. Students will return to their classrooms once the matter has been handled. A meeting will be held for parents to discuss the situation Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria of Mooers Elementary.
