St. Mary's turns 50

TICONDEROGA St. Marys School in Ticonderoga marked a milestone when classes began Sept. 4 50 years of service. The Catholic school offers classes to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Its students are from Ticonderoga and surrounding communities, including Vermont. The school first opened its doors under a charter from the St. Mary's parish in September, 1959. It is the southern-most Catholic school in the extensive Diocese of Ogdensburg. The school began under the premise and remains committed to the challenge of educating children with the expectation of high moral commitment and academic achievement, said School Principal Sister Sharon Dalton. We truly believe that we must be a part of Gods plan to create a special place of faith and knowledge and service in this area. We have been so blessed for 50 years with the overwhelming generosity and support of so many surrounding communities, as well as the gifts and talents of inspired students and teachers, Dalton said. This is a very special year for us, as we celebrate our past accomplishments and look forward to continued service. Dalton said the school has formed a committee to plan a formal 50th anniversary celebration in the spring. Anyone interested in helping plan those activities can contact St. Marys School at 585-7433 or Email sschoo3@nycap.rr.com As part of the 50-year anniversary school officials are looking for the addresses of graduates of St. Marys. They can be sent to the school at 64 Amherst Ave., Ticonderoga, called to 585-7433 or Emailed at sschoo3@nycap.rr.com.
