Talk About Wellness, a nonprofit initiative supporting public school educators and their students, announces mini-grants. Funding for this work has been made possible by a $50,000 grant from J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation (a supporting foundation of the Vermont Community Foundation) and an $80,000 grant from the Ferguson Foundation. More than 500 educators and youth workers have taken advantage of programs sponsored by Talk About Wellness since it was established. Today, the initiative is pleased to be able to offer mini-grants to educators to cover professional or personal training as well as materials that will enhance this work in the schools. A local high school teacher reports that calming techniques, when used in the classroom, give the student the space to answer, get back on task and make a connection to the material. Grants will range between $200 and $500 with rolling deadlines of Sept. 15, 2008, March 15, 2009 and Sept. 15, 2009. Additional information and an application form can be found at www.talkaboutwellness.org or educators may email Marilyn Neagley at. email@example.com. or call 802-985-3528.
