Area to sport Mini-Metro hoops team

HINESBURG The Charlotte-Hinesburg corridor is gearing up for an exciting new season of middle school-level basketball its called Mini Metro and its a competitive basketball league drawing teams from several Chittenden County school districts. The league is a step above a recreational level of play and offers youngters a chance to play ball and learn leadership and team skills. The Mini Metro season runs from October through February. During the season, practice sessions will be held during the week with league games played in Hinesburg on Sundays. Teams of boys and girls are fielded for a 5th-6th grade division and a 7th-8th grade division. According to organizer Dennis Lalancette, the CVUHS team will be made up of players from Charlotte, Hinesburg, St. George, Shelburne, and Williston. For details, contact Lalancette at 802-878-0594. A parent or guardian must register their son or daughter at CVUHS on the first night of the tryout. Tryouts will be held at the Champlain Valley Union High School gymnasium according to the schedule below: Boys, grades 7-8: Monday, Sept. 15 and Wednesday, Sept. 17, 7-9 p.m. Boys, grades 5-6: Monday, Sept. 22 and Wednesday, Sept. 24, 7-9 p.m. Girls, grades 7-8: Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept.18, 7-9 p.m. Girls, grades 5-6: Tuesday, Sept. 23 and Thursday, Sept. 25, 7-9 p.m.
